The FDOC will be sending reassignment notices in the coming days to officers working at the correctional facilities and work camps that are scheduled to close, but officers are urged to continue to speak out against the planned closures. Impacted officers have filled out reassignment-request forms where they ranked preferences for institutions to which they will accept reassignment. Next, the state will send out the notices reassigning the officers in seniority order to facilities that they chose as long as there are vacancies. The state said the notices will be sent out by Friday, Feb. 24. (Read the newsletter here.)

The FDOC Teamsters Bargaining Committee met with management representatives today and on Thursday, February 16. On Thursday, management presented their counterproposals on numerous articles. The final days for negotiating a complete contract are March 7 and 8.  By law, any unresolved issues will be addressed by the Legislature, and then submitted to all FDOC officers for ratification. The Florida Senate voted to reject prison privatization on February 14, yet Gov. Rick Scott has said he wants to move forward with exploring opportunities to privatize. Write a letter to the editor urging Gov. Scott to respect the Senate's decision.
