Why does membership matter?

Membership matters because we are stronger when we are united. As the legislative session gears up in January 2012, our collective strength matters more than ever. By joining the Teamsters now, we will improve our position at the bargaining table, and in Tallahassee where the legislature will be voting on issues of importance to all public employees.

How much are Teamster dues?

Teamster dues are $30 per month for full representation, including the Teamsters Legal Defense Fund, which covers criminal and civil litigation.

How quickly will I become a member?

The Teamsters will forward all completed application forms to a designated state representative, who will coordinate matters with the Bureau of State Payroll. After the information is entered into the state’s payroll system, $30 per month will be deducted from the officer’s wages. It may take approximately 30 days from submission of the application form before union dues will be deducted from officers’ paychecks.

Will the Teamsters give our dues money to candidates we don’t support?

No. It is illegal to use dues money for political purposes. However, the Teamsters do have one of the largest political action committee (PAC) funds in the country which is funded entirely by voluntary member contributions.
